The book of Esther is written during the Jewish exile to Babylon. The Jews don't have access to many of the things that culturally preserve their identity: the temple, ebenezers throughout their land, or synagogues to routinely tell their stories. In some ways, as followers of Jesus, we are living in his Kingdom that is not fully here yet. We shouldn't expect the worldly kingdom to look like Jesus' kingdom. But, we do get to preserve our identity and Jesus culture through our lives and character as we scatter into our world each week. How does Esther's story shape our spirituality in this liminal space of scattered worship?
